Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh
The Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh is for 13-16 year olds and currently has two in-patient beds. All bedrooms are equipped with comfy and cosy soft furnishings, bespoke furniture, TV, DVD and gaming facilities. We also provide free Teenage Cancer Trust Wifi and laptops.
Teenage Cancer Trust funds one member of expert staff at the unit:
We also fund a national Lead Nurse for Scotland and a Teenage and Young Adult Multi-disciplinary Team Coordinator in partnership with the Managed Service Network (MSN) for Children and Young People with Cancer.
They make sure each person having treatment gets the best possible quality care and is treated as a young person first, cancer patient second.
The Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh was opened in October 2009. This is an interim unit, and will be replaced by a unit within the new children’s hospital in Edinburgh, this is expected to be completed in 2018.
