Our Patrons

Frontman of The Who, Roger is a longstanding patron and has been the driving force behind Teenage Cancer Trust’s Royal Albert Hall concerts since they began in 2000.

“Every year Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall raises essential funds to support the charity’s work. I am incredibly proud of what we have already achieved and am inspired about what we will accomplish together.

Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to be part of many very memorable moments in the shows history. I have many fond memories such as playing a surprise support set for Richard Ashcroft with Paul Weller, Kelly Jones, Liam and Noel Gallagher; or seeing Little Britain’s first live performance and the Kaiser Chiefs opening up for Franz Ferdinand before taking the music world by storm.

Within these memories of unique collaborations and musical firsts are the faces of the incredible young people I have met. Over the years I have met many young people with cancer and like Teenage Cancer Trust, I believe that they shouldn’t have to stop being teenagers just because they have this disease. They have helped me understand that they are young people first – cancer patients second and I am always struck by their enthusiasm, positivism and their lust for life.”

The Duchess has been Patron of Teenage Cancer Trust since we opened our first unit in 1990 at the Middlesex Hospital in London. Since then, she has opened most of our new units, including our Glasgow unit in 2016, our units in Southampton and Edinburgh in 2013, and Great North Children’s Hospital with Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice in 2010.

The Duchess is well recognised as a passionate advocate for wellness and education worldwide. She has also written a number of books including a 12 book series called ‘Helping Hands’ with Lloyds pharmacy and a four book children’s series about the adventures of Little Red. The Duchess was a Producer on the film ‘The Young Victoria’, released in the UK in March 2009 and fronted the HELLO! Magazine Christmas Appeal which shone a light on the incredible work of Teenage Cancer Trust’s nurses, youth support teams and hospital units.

HRH Princess Beatrice and HRH Princess Eugenie have been loyal supporters of Teenage Cancer Trust for a number of years, having been introduced to the charity by their mother, Honorary Patron Sarah, Duchess of York. The princesses have visited many of our units across the country, including the official opening of units in the Great North Children’s Hospital in 2010, The Royal Marsden Hospital and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, both in in 2012, and the unit at UCLH on Princess Beatrice’s 18th birthday. Both visited frontline workers as part of the HELLO! Magazine Christmas campaign in 2021.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are patrons of a number of organisations and focus the majority of their charitable work around children and young people’s welfare and education.
