Volunteers Week 2022

It’s national Volunteers’ Week from 1-7 June, and we’re celebrating the fantastic contribution our amazing volunteers make to the work of Teenage Cancer Trust - and the difference they make to the lives of young people with cancer.

Every day, seven young people aged 13-24 hear the words “you have cancer”. Our volunteers help us to be there for every one of them.

And having stuck with us through the Coronavirus pandemic, now that restrictions have been lifted our loyal volunteers are back with a vengeance!  From January to March of this year alone, 240 volunteers contributed 1,292 hours of their time to Teenage Cancer Trust.

Whether joining bucket collections, helping out at events, providing work-based coaching for our staff, or cheering our runners across the finish lines, each of them helped make sure young people don’t face cancer alone.

Throughout volunteers’ week we’ll be sharing the voices of people who volunteer with us, who’ll talk about what it’s like, why they do it and what they get out of it.

If you’re interested in giving your time to do something good, why not consider joining them?

There are loads of opportunities to spend a spare hour (or 20!) helping us out, across the UK and all year round. We offer a wide range of volunteering roles to match your time, skill set, interests and talents, with something for everyone.

It’s a great way to gain experience, develop your skills, get involved in your local community and meet inspiring people from all walks of life who share your passion to make a difference.

Above all, you can enjoy the buzz of knowing you’ve helped make sure support is there for young people, throughout their cancer treatment and beyond.

What our volunteers say

Kevin and Julie

“We have volunteered at the Royal Albert Hall, our local Aldi store, and most recently the 2021 London Marathon.  The atmosphere was just amazing!  I have tried describing it to friends but to be honest you have to be there to fully appreciate it!”

“It’s great knowing that we are able to help Teenage Cancer Trust provide support to those who need it, when they need it. We all have full-time jobs and families but if we can give a few hours of our time, it means the world. We know we’re helping others but we’re also making people smile while we do it.”
